“You don’t need great faith, all you need is a little faith in a great God.”

I don’t have any fears about this upcoming mission trip, but in all honesty, my faith is closer to the size of a mustard seed than I’d like it to be.

Faith and fear both require you to believe in something you can’t see. In fact, fear is a result of faith in the wrong thing. They are so similar in concept, yet they are complete opposites.

“There is no fear in love, but perfect love casts out fear. For fear has to do with punishment, and whoever fears has not been perfected in love.” (1 John, 4:18)

It’s a bit contradictory because you can’t love if you have fear, and we are commanded to love one another in John 13:34, however, we are then urged to fear God “Behold, the fear of the Lord, that is wisdom, and to turn away from evil is understanding” (Job, 28:28)

Faith and love are always nonnegotiable, but I believe it is possible to fear God without being fearful!

I will be graduating high school in May this year and, as you can imagine, I’ve gotten the question “What are you going to do after you graduate?” more times than I can count. I’m the type of person who can’t stand uncertainty so when I’m asked this question it pains me that I can’t rattle off a 12 step list for exactly what my plan is. Believe me, I have tried many times to plan out my own future; Everything from being a chef, going into the military or college, starting my own company, becoming a surgeon, etc. and although they looked great on paper, they’ve lost their appeal over time.

At the moment, I still don’t know what God has in store for me in the long run. I do know however, that God has some HUGE things planned for each route of this year’s WR Gap Year program, not only for the people and communities they’ll be ministering to, but I can’t wait to see the transformations in the other students participating! No words can describe my excitement!!
